Yes, you read that correctly, latest information reaching us today, is that the West Africa Examination Council (waec) has made a huge announcement today, saying “WE ARE MAKING PLANS TO ADOPT CBT MODE”
According to the registrar of the West African Examination Council (WAEC), Dr Iyi Uwadiae who recently revealed this important step, said that the examination body is putting all plans in place, so they easily adopt the CBT mode in its examinations, which will be starting in a few years time.
Dr. Iyi Uwadiae however revealed, that waec board/council is not in a hurry as it is considering all variables as not to mess the whole idea up and bring them back to the drawing board.
The Registrar said and we quote below;
“We have looked at the issue of the Computer Base Test (CBT) and found that this is not a selection test, where one can deal with paper and pencil.
“So with this in mind, you can easily migrate to CBT, but for an achievement test where you train people to become
engineers, medical doctors and others, there will be need for practical experience and a shift to the 21st century and following the world technology.
“So, with this adoption, we are ensuring that these students (Waec candidates) are well equipped to participate in the cbt test. These students are just train them practically in the class, they equally need to be tested on the theory aspect too.
“So therefore, against this background, we are pulling our strength and collaborating with other examination bodies and experts outside Nigeria, making sure that when we finally adopt the CBT test method, we surely won’t fail.
“And finally, what is expected of the candidates, from their parents, teachers, schools and the nation, can still be achieved”.
What do you think? Would it be nice to see Waec students writing their Examination using the Computer Base Test (cbt) method, just like the JAMB UTME candidates are doing?
